Dear BCLA Members:
This message is a follow up to BC Lacrosse Association's (BCLA) November 20, 2020 President's Message regarding Lacrosse activity updates and the latest BC Health Authority and Dr. Bonnie Henry's announcement on November 19, 2020. The BCLA will continue to update our members as we receive new information. The latest information details province-wide restrictions.
The BCLA has further updates to report and how it relates to BCLA Lacrosse activities. We are in constant contact with viaSport, who are working to gain further clarification from the BC Health Authority. We continue to wait for the official written Order from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) that came into affect November 20, 2020 at midnight.
Read the province-wide restrictions by order and direction of the PHO (updated November 24):
https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/
The Order is in effect until December 7, 2020 at midnight.
The Order applies to all health regions in BC.
Lacrosse activities (games and practices) CAN occur in the current BCLA Return to Lacrosse Phase 3 Guidelines (the current phase Lacrosse has been since adopting the cohort model).
No spectators are allowed at any sport activities. The only people allowed to attend sport activities are those that provide care to a participant or player. (For example: coaches, team manager, and safety persons CAN attend).
NEW
Individual athletes, coaches, trainers, managers, officials, & umpires, who live in one city/community, CAN attend lacrosse activities in other cities/communities.
Team travel is prohibited and must be limited to stay within each city/community. Team travel to, from, and between cities/communities CANNOT occur. Team location is based on the team's association/club location in which the team is registered.
The PHO press conference on November 19th and their notices use the words community, city, and regions in ways that create some ambiguity on the travel restrictions for play.

Please note that once the final written Order from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) is written and available, along with viaSport's clarification, we may be required to adjust further.

Hi Bellies Family,The City of New Westminster has just updated their guidance, again, regarding spectators at their facilities. They have now informed us that spectators are permitted at their outdoor facilities. As a result, you may once again attend your child’s practices & games at Queen’s Park East field. However, New West Minor Lacrosse still strongly suggests that only one parent or family member attend an event, and that you wear a mask while in attendance.Further, it is essential that you:
- DO NOT attend if you are feeling unwell
- Maintain at least 2 meters physical distancing
- Practice respiratory etiquette (i.e. cough into elbow/sleeve)
- Sanitize or wash your hands often
- Follow all Provincial Health Office orders and New West Minor Lacrosse Return to Play Protocols
Please do your part in helping encourage the observance of these rules. Resist the urge to gather while watching the game, and politely remind others to do the same.We do apologize for the many updates and quickly changing guidance, but we are bound to pass along the information as we receive it from the various governing bodies.Enjoy the games this weekend, but please do so safely and responsibly.Best regards,Julie EdgarVP - Girls Field LacrosseBill TylerVP - Boys Field LacrosseNWMLA

Dear Members,
On August 24, the BC Provincial Government announced viaSport BC's Phase 3 additions to the Return to Sport Guidelines. This is welcomed news for sport and for BC Lacrosse members!
The BCLA reiterates that a patient approach to new activities will be vital, that each sport and organization will progress at different rates, and that each region and municipality will have its own ways of keeping their communities safe.
The health and safety for all participants in the BC Lacrosse community is paramount and is central to our decisions around COVID-19 and Return to Lacrosse. All involved in our sport must take direction from the appropriate health authorities, including the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health and your local health authority. We strongly remind all, as we return to some levels of lacrosse activities, we cannot relax our health and safety practices (I.e., 2-meter physical distancing; increased hand hygiene; outdoor activities with small groups, etc.).
The BCLA Return to Lacrosse Committee and support groups are working hard to update and align the next phase BCLA Return to Lacrosse Guidelines to the viaSport BC Phase 3 Return to Sport Guidelines. The committee will swiftly clarify any issues, update, and publish the plans accordingly. Once the draft is ready, the document must receive BCLA Board approval before implementation.
What this means for BC Lacrosse Associations/Clubs-
We are entering the traditional Field Lacrosse season with encouraging expectations. The BCLA has confirmed a reduction in 2021 field player registration fees and communicated to associations/clubs to open registration and promote registration to their athletes. Let's embrace this opportunity and invite all lacrosse athletes to participate.
The viaSport Progressively Loosen phase will offer revised guidance for activities involving contact, cohorts, competition, competition hosting, high performance camps and travel. See viaSport BC Phase 3 guidelines here: https://www.viasport.ca/sites/
We expect the BCLA Return to Lacrosse Phase 2/3 Guidelines will be complete for release the first week of September.
The BCLA Board, Directorates, and Technical Support Groups continue planning normal fall meetings of which all are being conducted virtually. We will continue to communicate information to the lacrosse community as we receive it to inform our sport leaders.
To all administrators and volunteers, thank you for remaining strong through this trying time.
Thank you for your patience.
If you have any additional questions, please e-mail me at gerry@bclacrosse.com

Gerry Van Beek, BCLA President

Hi Bellies Family,
We hope you’re all staying healthy and safe, as we all do our part to help flatten the COVID-19 curve.
As announced previously, all formal lacrosse activities remain on hold until at least May 15th. While we remain hopeful that we’ll be able to hit the floor in some format, that remains far from certain. The CLA, BCLA and Lower Mainland Minor Lacrosse Commission continue to monitor the situation and discuss plans for the possible resumption of lacrosse, should it be deemed appropriate by the relevant government authorities. We, as your Executive, are doing the same.
Recently, we've received a few inquiries regarding the refund of registration fees. As resumption of lacrosse activity remains a possibility, the Club may yet be responsible for floor times, BCLA and league fees etc. As a result, we are unable to make a plan for potential refunds until final decisions on the season are made by our governing bodies.
We appreciate your patience in these uncertain times, and will continue to provide updates as they come available.
Warm regards,
Rich Catton
President - NWMLA
