Congratulations to these three amazing Bellies who received $500 scholarships from the British Columbia Lacrosse Association to support their post secondary education.

A big huge GO BELLIES to Maddie Macleod who was selected as the 2025 Ron Hemmerling Memorial Scholarship Female recipient, Kai Stewardson who was selected as the 2025 Ted Fridge Scholarship recipient and Brooklyn Sverdrup who was selected as the 2025 Joel McCready Family Scholarship recipient!

We look forward to celebrating you on your new adventures. We couldn't be more proud.

Wondering who is leading Final Field Frenzy on August 13 at Mercer Stadium?

We have an amazing squadron of coaches this time around.

Leading the girls side, we have Ashlyn Dhandwar and Savanna Smith

Ashlyn is a highly acclaimed lacrosse athlete having played for Team BC for Box and Field Lacrosse and representing BC the Canada Summer Games in Box Lacrosse. She is a committed D1 college athlete entering her third year at Canisius University (Go Griffs). A midfielder who also takes the draw, she will be sharing her expertise with all our athletes with targeted training provided during the skills session.

Savanna is a lacrosse legend. In 2005 Savanna, alongside four other women started the girls’ field lacrosse league that exists in the lower mainland today. In 2008 Savanna made Team BC for U-19 men’s field lacrosse, being the only female in the team’s history. She attended LaSalle University as BOTH an attack player and goalie. Savanna recently coached the first ever, bronze medal winning, Indigenous Field Lacrosse team at the Women's Field Lacrosse Nationals (Jenny Kyle Cup)

Leading the Youth (Co-Ed) side we have Sr Bellies Phil Caputo and Andrew Wiedemann who are leading the next generation of fish mid play off run.

Phil is a forward with the Philadelphia Wings and the Sr Salmonbellies. He played Junior A lacrosse for the Brampton Excelsiors. He was a member of the Ladner Pioneers Senior B team and won the 2022 President's Cup, Canada's Sr. B national championship.

Andrew is a three-time USILA All-American and former Conference Carolinas Player of the Year at Belmont Abbey College, who plays for the Georgia Swarm and the Sr Salmonbellies. When not lacrossing, he is pursuing his Masters of Business Administration at Lander University and helping coach their lacrosse team.

This week we celebrate the Senior Salmonbellies 3-1 victory over the Victoria Shamrocks in the WLA semi-finals, and anticipate what is sure to be an intense League Championship series against the Adanacs or Burrards.

24 Mann Cup championships aside, lacrosse in #NewWest is more than just the most famous team in lacrosse. It is a community, and at the centre of that community is the New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association. They carry the tradition of the salmon-adorned “W” to next generations of box and field lacrosse players and champions. They help kids as young as 5 learn the sport, run boys, girls and mixed-gender leagues, promote the game in the school system, train coaches and referees, and keep the traditions of the sport alive.

The City of New Westminster is proud to support lacrosse through our Community Grant program, helping the @minorbellies fund development and training for players, referees, and youth coaches, and supporting events like the Olivia Malcom jamboree and the Field Frenzy that grow the sport.

To all the players (U7s to WLA finalists!), to the coaches, refs, volunteers and parents: Go ‘Bellies Go!
