Olivia Malcom Jamboree-April 5 & 6

Mark your calendars because on April 5th and 6th, Queen’s Park Arena will be shining bright with the future of New West lacrosse and warmed by the soul that is the Olivia Malcom Jamboree. It also marks the start of our Minor Bellies box lacrosse season, and we couldn’t think of a better way for it to begin.
Olivia Malcom was an avid lacrosse player and coach who embodied kindness, fair play, heart and community. She died tragically at the age of 19 on June 2, 2018 when she was killed by a reckless driver. Her family, friends and the community were devastated by her loss, but remain committed to honouring her so that she, and the impact she made, is never forgotten. In April of 2022, we renamed our annual U7 & U9 jamboree the Olivia Malcom Jamboree.
The Jamboree takes place at Queen’s Park Arena on April 5th and 6th. Games are on Saturday, April 5th 9:00am – 6:00pm for U9 Co-ed and Girls Divisions, and Sunday, April 6th 8:30am – 11:30am for the U7 Division. Come by and cheer on the lacrosse players of the future and celebrate the memory of an incredible young woman.
The goal of the Olivia Malcom Jamboree is for U7 & U9 players to learn to love the sport of lacrosse in a welcoming and celebratory environment. With the support of their families, coaches, teammates and referees these young players will begin their lacrosse journey with sportsmanship and teamwork. First time refs will be trained on the floor, giving them the opportunity to learn and develop, just as the youngest players are.
Olivia often told her family how important it was to allow kids to play lacrosse for the love of the game. She was a player, an assistant coach, a fan (who grew up cheering for her dad in the Sr Salmonbellies) and an amazing community member. We hope this jamboree is a true testament to Olivia’s legacy.
Welcome to the start of the New Westminster Minor Salmonbellies 2025 Box Lacrosse Season. This one’s for you Olivia.
Referee development has been generously funded in part by a City of New Westminster’s Community Grant.
